Celebrating 40 Years of Alien
The science fiction/horror film Alien (1979), directed by Ridley Scott, has become extremely popular and influential, and has spawned several sequels and imitators. The title of the film refers to highly aggressive extraterrestrial creatures (unidentified in this original film, but referred to and categorized as "Xenomorphs" in the sequel Aliens). But the connecting thread becomes the saga of Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, a human woman who finds herself the principal opponent of the species throughout the series. The film launched the first major American film series with a female action hero.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
"In every generation there is a chosen one... she alone will stand against the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer." Buffy Summers knows this tale by heart, and no matter how hard she tries to be just a "normal girl", she can not escape from her destiny... Thankfully, she is not alone in her quest to save the world, as she has the help of her friends, the hilarious (and surprisingly quite effective) evil-fighting team called "The Scooby Gang". Together, Buffy & co. will slay their demons, survive one apocalypse after another, attend high school and college... and above all, understand that growing up can truly be Hell sometimes... literally.

True Blood
Small-town Louisiana waitress Sookie Stackhouse already is viewed as an oddball by her friends and neighbors, since she can read the minds of those around her. She doesn't exactly help her reputation, though, when she falls for Bill Compton, a 173-year-old vampire who has "come out of the coffin" along with many of his undead comrades now that a new synthetic blood has made it possible for vampires to survive without preying on humans. Still, the conservative locals aren't wild about mortal-vampire liaisons, especially Sookie's boss, Sam Merlotte, who carries a torch for her. "Six Feet Under" creator Alan Ball is behind this series adaptation of best-selling novels by Charlaine Harris.

Alien vs. Predator
(often abbreviated “AvP”) is a science fiction / horror fiction series spanning several forms of media. The series is a crossover between two popular movie streams about extraterrestrial beings: Alien (whose creatures are known as "Xenomorphs") and Predator (whose aliens are known as the "Yautja"). In AvP, the two species are in conflict with one another because of human actions. The idea for such a crossover is often thought to have originated from a Xenomorph skull seen as a Predator's trophy in Predator 2, but Dark Horse Comics published their first Alien vs. Predator story in November 1989, a year before the November 1990 release of Predator 2.

Strange monsters lurked in her shadows, strange blights followed in her footsteps, and her evil acts began to be overt.
